There’s no better place to kick off the wedding season than a destination wedding in the Charleston, South Carolina area.  April and Dustin selected St. Andrews Church in Mt. Pleasant for their exchanging of vows and was preceded by a festive reception celebration at the beautiful Magnolia Plantations and Gardens in Charleston.

About Magnolia Plantation & Gardens

The beautiful Magnolia Plantation & Gardens was originally build by Thomas Drayton in 1676 and over looks the Ashley River in Charleston, South Carolina. The gardens throughout the estate are amazing and filled with azalea’s, camellias, daffodils and several other variety of flowers. This is also a paradise haven for migratory birds & local species. Surviving the American Revolution and Civil War this plantation is the oldest public gardens in America. For years we have talked about attending the “Worlds Largest Oyster Roast” at the annual Boone Hall Plantation Lowcountry Oyster Festival in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.  This year looked to be no different until one of our clients requested our services in Charleston that very weekend.  With two huge tractor trailer loads with about 80,000 lbs. of oysters, a hometown band of mine from Knoxville, Tennessee and alternate food selections from some of the best restaurants in the Charleston area.  Who could go wrong and all the while benefiting three amazing organizations.  The Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center.

With several oyster steamers fired up just like this one above.  Nobody waited on a hot bucket of oysters all day!

Restaurants of The Greater Charleston Restaurant Association were also in attendance and guests had the option to select from many other seafood dishes, barbecue, hamburgers, etc…

Here’s two of the more than 100 volunteers that helped throughout the day to make this event such a huge success with record attendance.

Shorty after this picture was taken.  This group put down about forty dozen oysters within 30 minutes and a few beers along the way.

The ”Oyster Festival War Wagon”.

The Coastal Conservation Association was on hand to collect about 80,000 lbs of oyster shells to be recycled throughout the area.

Each bucket held about 4-5 dozen oysters each.  I did say only $10.00 each!

It was if I had asked the winner to lean forward before the event.

 And the winner of the Lowcountry Oyster Festival shucking contest was Marco Gaspar who shucked 45 oysters.

Dave Landeo Band from Knoxville, Tennessee kept the party going throughout the day.  They even slipped in “Rocky Top”!

What an incredible event to be had by all and for a great cause.  We will be back with our own “Oyster War Wagon” next year!!!

About The Annual Lowcountry Oyster Festival:

 The event is put on each year by The Greater Charleston Restaurant Association to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, Hollings Cancer Center and Charleston County Schools Science Materials Resource Center.  The festival has a wide selection of food options (other than oysters) and activates throughout the day for all ages.  This year included an Oyster Shucking and Oyster Eating contest, live music (Dave Landeo Band from Knoxville!), Food Court which included some of the best restaurants in the Charleston area and a Kids Corner that included pony rides and jumping castles.  This event wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the amazing sponsors of Bulliards, Pepsi Bottling Group, Bud Light, Culinary Institue of Charleston and US Foods Services.

This past weekend we had the pleasure to donate our services to the First Tee of Greater Charleston for the 1st Annual Gopher Ball held at the Patriots Point Links Golf Course in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. The “Caddy Shack” themed event was a great success as guests turned out in their themed attire and exceeded the organizations goals for the evening.  This all inclusive event included open bars, light hors d’ouvres and the amazing Right On Band.

Patriots Point Links Golf Club over looking Charleston Harbor was the perfect venue for this fundraiser.  Many guests tee off earlier in the day to kick off this annual event.

It didn’t take long for the main tent to fill once the Right On Band took center stage.

With so many talented vocal artists in one band.  Their play sheet is almost endless.

It’s wouldn’t be a true Caddie Shack themed event without the Gopher!

 Food For The Southern Soul – Tidewater Catering knocked it out of the park with their amazing food.

So who remembers the pool scene in the Caddy Shack movie?  BabyRuth anyone…

Everybody had a wonderful evening and it supported a great cause.  First Tee of Greater Charleston.  See you next year!!!
